The traffic lights that were damaged in the fatal accident in April at the intersection of D’Anjou Boulevard and Bell Street in Châteauguay have finally been replaced. Why did it take three months? The city says it was a matter of parts being in stock.

Several residents wondered why the traffic lights weren’t replaced sooner, given that it’s a busy intersection and there could be safety issues. Stop signs had been put up in the meantime.
Alain Legault, division head of public affairs for the City of Châteauguay, told the newspaper that the usual manufacturing time for the various parts is generally six to eight weeks. “Unfortunately, they can’t keep all the parts in stock because some of them are really specific, like the concrete bases, the types of mounts, the types of arms and spans, and the traffic light heads,” he said.
Investigation still ongoing
On April 21, a vehicle traveling at high speed on Boulevard D’Anjou struck the traffic light at the corner of the shopping center and fatally struck Matthew Lamarre, who was waiting to cross the street at that moment. When asked about this, the Châteauguay Police Department said that the investigation was still ongoing and that there were no new developments at this time.
